Question by xloudia: Will Carbonite Internet Backup Protect My Files If My Computer Crashes?
I’m on the free 30 Day Trial, and I want to back up all of my files on Carbonite because I’m trying to remove a virus from my computer that has somehow worked it’s way into my registry and it could crash my computer to remove it. Will Carbonite work on any computer, or will I still lose my files? Also, if anyone knows anything about the RECYCLER virus, I would appreciate your help!

Best answer:

Answer by dung blast
Carbonite of couse will backup yor files. But you can manually backup your files to flash drive or CD or DVD. The recycler virus modified autorun.inf and infects removable media so don’t use a cd or dvd (unless its rewriteable). If you use a flash drive, then backup stuff there make sure you virus scan it later.
Recycler virus removal instructions (I hope it is for yours)
1. Search for the process called CTFMON.EXE and kill it through Task Manager.
2. Search CTFMON.EXE file in the Startup menu and delete it.
3. Boot the system in safe mode and open the command prompt.
4. Disable hidden, system, and read only attributes for autorun.inf and recycled folder delete them.
5. Clean the recycle bin.
6. Repeat these steps for all the drives on your computer.
7. Open registry editor and modify the NoDriveTypeAutoRun entry with 03ffffff value after searching it in following registry folders:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWARE
HKEY_CURRENT_USERSOFTWARE
8. Reboot and scan your system with latest antivirus software.

I suggest you use Acronis True Image, or if you use Windows XP Pro use the backup utility if you want, to make a full drive image. If you already have an on access scanner installed then I suggest you remove it and use Avast Free Edition 5.0. It, in my opinion and many others, it one of the greatest (after Avira’s 99.8% detection rate). Say no to drugs, also say no to AVG, McAfee Norton 2010 2009 2009, Bitdefender, Comodo, Fortinet, PC Tools, Malwarebytes, ClamWin, and A Squared.
When your computer is clean, or if you reinstalled it, IMAGE IT AT THAT MOMENT so if you get infected, just restore from that image, which rewrites the current Windows. If you do this, make sure you split your hard drive into two drives, like C: and D:.

Han in Carbonite

Han in Carbonite
Carbonite

Used sugar-free black cherry jell-o and a few drops of black food coloring. And four extra packets of Knox.

Gave Han a bath in boiling water first.

Made one layer of Knox blow (1 pkg jell-o, plus 2 packets of Knox, plus 2 cups boiling water). Let that set.

Lay Han on top. Add second layer, same as the first. Let that set.

Serve.

Question by Suzanne: I’ve just installed ARO2011 but also have Kaspersky and Carbonite on my computer. Too much?
My 1yr old computer is running super slow lately – so I installed ARO2011 to clean house. I already have Kaspersky installed and have been using Carbonite to backup as well. Is this overkill?

Best answer:

Answer by Avirobin
no.. its okay but delete the backups of carbonite which are one week ago or 2 days ago like that. Otherwise its okay. Increase the Random Access Memory(RAM) of your computer and your computer will work in rapid speed!!! :)

Fender and headlight and blinker now on! There was this damned horrible screw that I tried to get screwed for 10 minutes, dropping it like 10 times. Finally, Matthew declared, "I’m tired of your shenanigans", and went in and got it screwed tn in one try.

Clint.
fixing.
Pontiac Bonneville 1993 car, headlight.

garage, Matthew G’s house, McLean, Virginia.

February 2, 2010.

… Read my blog at ClintJCL.wordpress.com

BACKSTORY: Clint’s car came back from the body shop totaled, after hitting a deer on the way back from a party at Dirk’s. He bought a new fender ( + S/H), headlight ( + S/H), and blinker (not pictured, ), and, with GREAT HELP from his friend Matthew G, got it fixed for 0 (which includes another for bolts and bulbs at the hardware store).Meanwhile, Farmer’s Insurance paid him out 50 (they would have paid out 0 more if I’d let them keep it). Major profit! Well, right after the snow melted, his tie rod broke, and sway rod was about to break, so it was another 0 on top of that. But still: $ ~700 out, 50 in. Major profit.

Even if I could somehow gotten a car as good as mine for half of what they paid me, this was STILL the most economical route.

Let this be a lesson to people who let their insurance "total" their car, and then go out and buy a new one, pretending that they are helpless and "have" to. Or those that buy a new car because they feel the repairs are worth more than their existing car (which is fallacious financial logic anyway). To them I say, BULLPUCKEY! One more lesson that reinforces the concept that doing things the "normal" way is almost never the most perseonally advantageous way. Thank you, "Bob", for your great SLACK! I got paid to total my car! Making a million dollars every time you make a mistake is one of the definitions of SLACK, and this was pretty damnc lose.

Of course, the car immediately broke (tie rod fell out) upon it’s first post-snowpocalypse drive, incurring an additional 0 (tie rods, sway bar, towing that would have been free if my car wasn’t already totaled). Even with the additional 0 expense, I am *STILL* 00 ahead! That’ll definitely pay for more freon this summer. Amazing what going against the grain will get you these days.

Question by mad4fashion: How do I go about filing Taxes if I am paid by cash?
I am going to start getting paid for housecleaning and childcare fo a woman and her children and she will be paying me by either cash or check. I want to be able to get financial aid so I would need to have an income tax return.

How can I file for taxes?
Is it a one time thing around tax time or do I need to pay taxes everytime I get paid?
I will not get paid much, and I have a child, would I have to pay a lot of taxes?

Best answer:

Answer by la45309
If that is the way your going, take 15% of everything you make and put it in an account and at the end of the year you will have the money for your taxes, but the way it sounds you will not owe except for social security, Hope for the FairTax then you get money back every month.

Question by Ali: What are the best graphic and web design companies to visit near Seattle Center?
I am part of a Graphic Design Club at a Washington State community college. We are currently planning a trip to Seattle in early June 2011, and we want to tour several graphic and web design companies while we are there! We will be touring on June 3rd, 2011.

Can anyone recommend places we should tour? Anyone out there actually work for one of the companies? We will be staying at a hotel in Seattle Center and will need the companies to be within walking distance, or be able to use public transportation to get there. Thanks for the help!

Best answer:

Answer by Matthew M
Google companies, see who you like or looks good and contact them. Many web design companies will not allow visitors without appointments and also many may be much smaller than they look online. You’ll want to visit them based on the type of projects they complete so looking at their own websites will be the first thing to do. Then see if they are based near your hostel.

hey day 100. look at that… i remember last years day 100… i made a bit more of a fuss about it.

so, today i spent 100 bucks at walmart on groceries and stuff i needed, and then i paid one of my two speeding tickets.

this ticket was the one that i for sure won’t be going to court for… it got it about 4 hours away and i would have to report there at 8:30am…. so eff that.

the dude totally trapped me, i was going 71 in a 70 and then BOOM it changes to 50 for like 1 mile for construction. this cop was parked RIGHT at the beginning of the construction zone… i didnt even have a chance to see the speed was changing and slow down.
0 goes bye bye.

the other ticket is total bull too… 44 in a 35… ill be fighting that one.

Does everyone remember how sick I was last year with my lymph glands all swollen and the Dr’s thinking I had Lymphoma????? Well, we finally figured it allllllllll out. Right now I’m in the hospital because I’ve got black ulcers in my tummy which they think are now full of bacteria…..They did a biopsy of them but…. It’s good that I’m here because now I can post my babies….YEAH!!!! Im kinda forced to slow it down…..anyways, Im feeling better and believe it or not all of that swelling in all of my Lymph glands is going down. amazing huh? Im doing much better now….still in pain but they give me lots of pain meds. I crawled into the emergency room last Tuesday morning just exhausted from getting sick every hour for the previous 27 hours. I just can’t believe all of the tests i went through last year and they never found it. Two trips to the emergency room last year….a incorrent diagnosis of "gallbladder Disease" or " Maam, you have gass…drink this" lol. Sad but true…..Im so happy the puzzle is now complete and Im on my way to recovery..

again, I will try not to let so much time go by without posting. Ive gotta learn to stop and smell the Doggies. LOL

Not much happening today. Edited my photo from last night and then watched "Interview with the Vampire" for the first time in a long time. It was kind of cool seeing it in HD.

Thought I was making some money tonight on a photography gig before realizing that I had already been paid for it a few months back. It was a dinner event that was supposed to happen earlier. I got paid for it a week before it was supposed to happen and then it got cancelled. The lady told me to keep the money cause she knew she’d need me again. Glad I remembered before putting my hand out for a check… that could have been awkward.

Tonight Tam and I went walking and we talked about how spoiled we are now. We used to be so poor when we first got married and we had so many forces that threated to tear us apart. These days we’re a lot more comfortable with our station in life.

I pondered whether we’d be even better off if I just began doing photography full time. I’m always so afraid of all the paperwork and taxes though. I’m just not good at keeping up with that sort of thing. I’d definitely have to hire someone to keep track of it for me. I know that I don’t want to continue woking for "the man" the rest of my life though. My freelance clients are always asking me why I even bother with a regular day job. But it’s so much easier when you know there’s a steady paycheck and insurance and free cable… yadda.

Anyway, my 365 plans for tonight fell through since Clarissa had a friend over and I didn’t want to embarass her with what I’m sure would have looked very silly to her friend. Maybe later.

Best answer:

the mortgage interest is only part of your itemized deductions so your $ 14k of mortgage interest does not translate to an exact amount of refund

the itemized deductions total reduce your AGI to a taxable income, but not $ 1 for $ 1

Day 359/365 – Friday Night, Restaurant Night
Get Paid
When I was a kid I looked forward to Friday nights, because that was the night my family always went out to dinner. I’m guessing we went out to eat on Fridays because that was the day Pops got paid. Generally we didn’t go anywhere fancy. There were about 8-10 different local restaurants that we’d take turns making the rounds of on Friday nights. Still, there was something fun and exciting about going out to eat.

Tonight I met my friend Pia for dinner at The Source, Wolfgang Puck’s restaurant and lounge in Washington, DC. Pia was running late, so I ordered myself a frou frou pear cocktail and just hung out in the lounge to wait. The photo above is of the corner booth in the lounge. I’d been wanting to try The Source for the past several months, so when Pia said she was going to be in town today and asked if I wanted to meet up with her for dinner it seemed like the perfect opportunity to check it out.

The Source is a very attractively designed space. It’s modern, but not cold or sterile. The downstairs portion is occupied by the lounge, with the restaurant upstairs. The cocktails there were very good, as were the appetizers. The entrees are just okay, but the dessert is good. Final verdict — I don’t think I’d go back to The Source for dinner, but I would certainly go there for drinks and appetizers.
